Video Guard guards the educational campus in Ribnitz-Damgarten

The bernsteinSchule campus in Ribnitz-West (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) will combine three surrounding school types – consisting of an elementary school, an orientation school and a secondary school – in a single building. As part of the merger, the existing orientation school will be renovated and a new building will be constructed for the elementary school. A spacious sports and leisure facility will also be created around the four-storey school building. Video Guard is used here to protect the construction site from theft and vandalism.

In September 2020, construction work began on the extension of the two school buildings and the construction of a connecting building. The client of the project is the town of Ribnitz-Damgarten. It also decided to use camera-based surveillance to protect the construction site from unauthorized access and thus ensure security during the construction process.

Every corner in view
Monitoring was not carried out from the start of construction. Video Guard was only used when windows and building doors were installed. The temporary storage of expensive ventilation and sanitary equipment was also monitored as part of this process. And with good reason: before the surveillance systems came into use, there were increased incidents of break-ins and attempted thefts. A total of three camera towers are in use. The positioning at three key points on the construction site creates a completely enclosed safety area.

More important than ever
Especially in the current economic situation on the building materials market, theft or damage to property can have a massive impact on the building project for a long time. Building materials are not only scarce and expensive, they are also currently difficult to replace. Delayed delivery times can currently be longer than 20 months and thus lead to considerable costs due to construction delays.

Video Guard works
The need to protect the construction project quickly became apparent: Video Guard was able to keep thieves away from the site in the first week or two thanks to early intervention. Playing children were also sent away from the construction site by the Video Guard acoustic signal and subsequent request to leave the area. The local police will be informed as soon as unauthorized persons enter the site and do not leave even after being requested to do so.
