Video Guard guards the construction of the Viktoria Karree in Bochum
In Bochum’s city center, the modern Viktoria Karree business district is being built on the site of the former justice center. The building complex combines several uses and will play a key role in shaping the city center in the future. With a total area of 65,000 square meters, this is one of the largest construction projects in the city. Hanseatische Betreuungs- und Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH (HBB) therefore relies on the intelligent surveillance system Video Guard Professional to secure the extensive premises.
Increased population figures, changing age structures and altered shopping patterns: urban space, like a city’s society, is constantly changing. In order to do justice to current developments and people’s changing needs, city centers in particular should therefore be designed in a multifaceted way and form a place that combines living and housing. This goal is being pursued in Bochum with the construction of the Viktoria-Karree, among other things. The commercial building in Viktoria Strasse – consisting of three building blocks and seven floors – covers a total area of 65,000 square meters. Of this, 37,500 square meters are rental space. A shopping mall with stores and restaurants is planned on the first levels as well as an underground garage with 500 parking spaces. In contrast to other city center malls, the stores in the Viktoria-Karree can all be accessed from the outside and have separate entrances. This creates a direct connection to the city center. On the upper floors, Hamburg-based hanseatische Betreuungs- und Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH (HBB) is creating flexible office space for several users with different requirements. A fitness center and a hotel round off the offerings in the business district.
Inner-city construction site security
Major construction sites in inner-city areas in particular often have an impact on the immediate surroundings, on residents, stores and traffic. This leads to logistical challenges and precise planning. HBB relies on the Video Guard Professional camera system to prevent additional construction delays and costs caused by theft and vandalism on the extensive Viktoria Karree construction site. The mobile towers are each equipped with three high-resolution cameras that monitor the site without gaps. Thanks to the attached infrared spotlights, the construction site is fully protected even in the dark and well-lit images are produced. The fact that infrared light is not perceived by the human eye has several positive aspects. On the one hand, residents of the surrounding apartments are not disturbed, and on the other hand, the surveillance area cannot be recognized by potential perpetrators. Spying is therefore not possible. The eye-catching signal colors of the towers and visually matching banners at the edge of the construction site draw attention to the video surveillance. The system is set so that adjacent public areas – such as pedestrian paths – do not fall within the detection range. These legally impermissible areas are hidden by the software in an audit-proof manner. Monitoring is therefore carried out in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The vector-based video analytics system detects any movement during the surveillance period and triggers an alarm immediately. This is received by the company’s own permanently staffed control center, where the situation is analyzed and, if necessary, the local police are informed. False signals triggered by animals are excluded.
Thanks to its technical capabilities, Video Guard Professional is particularly suitable for use in inner-city areas – such as here in the construction of the Viktoria Karree. Construction delays can thus be avoided and the construction work completed on time.
