Video Guard secures construction project for LUCAS instruments GmbH in Jena

After 20 years, the high-tech company LUCAS instruments is investing in a new company headquarters. A prestigious new building with office, research and development space is being built on the historic site of “Hall 10” of the former Zeiss factory. The building also offers sufficient space for other companies and institutions from Jena and the region. The construction site is currently being secured by Video Guard Professional. The project is scheduled for completion in summer 2022.

“We are reaching our limits with our current premises. We want to continue to grow and offer our specialists a modern and well-equipped building with the new building that creates comfortable working conditions,” says Managing Director Thomas Lucas. The construction company Implenia is building the eight-storey structure, which has a floor space of around 8,000 square meters. There is space for a total of 400 workers. Thanks to innovative construction technology, all floor slabs are free of disruptive beams. Future tenants can therefore design their space flexibly and according to their wishes. To ensure that the construction project is not disrupted by theft or vandalism, the project participants rely on the “Video Guard” surveillance system. Equipped with three ultra-lowlight cameras each, the towers keep an eye on machines and building materials. These are deactivated during working hours. In the evening and at night, as well as at weekends, the system monitors reliably – and is not disturbed by animals or waving tarpaulins and the like. The risk of possible false alarms is minimized. If unauthorized persons enter the premises during the guarding period, the system detects the movement and immediately triggers an alarm, which is received by the connected security control center. This can then initiate further steps – up to and including alerting the local police. The construction site is located between the Westbahnhof railway station and the Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences in Jena and is therefore in a prestigious location. At the same time, however, this also means that data protection concerns of potential passers-by had to be taken into account when selecting the construction site security. Video Guard is 100% GDPR-compliant in that it reliably hides unauthorized areas on the software side. Adjacent footpaths and other public areas are not recorded by the cameras.
