Video Guard protects tunnel construction sites from theft and vandalism

An efficient infrastructure requires a large number of engineering structures. There are more than 270 federal highway tunnels in Germany. Their construction and operation are among the most complex and expensive structures in the road network. Unfortunately, construction sites of this size always attract onlookers and people who gain unauthorized access to the construction site. To prevent vandalism and theft and to protect uninvited visitors from potential dangers, Video Guard offers a suitable system with its intelligent, mobile camera towers. The high-resolution cameras cover a large surveillance area and detect intruders quickly and reliably.

The road network in Germany is impressive: 630,000 kilometers of asphalt lead cars, trucks and motorcycles from Cologne to Berlin, from the Alps to the sea, through forests and through the middle of rocks. According to the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport Affairs (BMDV), Germany has more than 270 road tunnels with a total tube length of around 270 kilometers. They are built when roads have to be moved into tunnels to overcome natural obstacles, for noise and landscape protection or due to a lack of space in conurbations. A further 100 of these structures are currently in the planning and preliminary planning phase. Tunnel construction is therefore flourishing. What is also not decreasing is the number of thefts from these construction sites.

Continuous monitoring
Tunnel construction sites often extend over several kilometers. Monitoring them is an important issue in order to ensure the safety of workers and construction progress. This is because the work involves many dangers and securing the construction sites is crucial in order to avoid accidents. Due to the size of the construction sites, it is often not feasible to secure the area in terms of personnel. For this reason, site managers are increasingly turning to camera system monitoring. Video Guard towers equipped with high-resolution cameras and video analytics secure tunnel construction sites during the entire construction phase. The high-resolution ultra-lowlight cameras are positioned in such a way that they protect the previously defined areas. Comprehensive surveillance is guaranteed – thus eliminating blind spots. A rechargeable battery installed in the tower ensures surveillance with the help of an emergency power supply in the event of a power failure on the construction site. All Video Guard camera systems have an eye-catching design. This gives them a deterrent effect that prevents unauthorized persons from entering the site. However, should thieves or vandals make their way onto the construction site, the cameras detect the intruders and send an alarm to the control center. The control center is staffed around the clock by trained personnel. Loudspeakers are integrated into the camera towers. The control center personnel use these to contact the intruders and ask them to leave the premises. In many cases, this request is enough to persuade them to leave. If the request is not complied with, the security personnel take appropriate measures and inform the police. The camera systems thus make an effective contribution to the protection of tunnel construction sites and the expansion of an efficient infrastructure.

The federal road 417 was laid underground over a length of 335 meters. To ensure smooth progress on the construction site, the contractor SPIE Dürr GmbH relied on Video Guard to protect the construction site from theft and vandalism.

Tunnel construction sites often extend over several kilometers. Monitoring such large areas with security personnel is not feasible. This is why the Video Guard camera towers are used.

Vacancy monitoring: how VIDEO GUARD protects your unused properties

Vacant properties are a real paradise for criminals: these unused properties, which are often just waiting to be brought back to life, turn into dangerous playgrounds for vandalism, burglaries and other illegal activities. As many vacant properties are inadequately secured, they offer ideal conditions for criminal activity.
