Video Guard keeps an eye on Silbersee II and the shore

The cultural institution “Urbane Künste Ruhr” presents internationally relevant art projects in urban spaces. A total of 22 projects addressing global climate change were exhibited in various cities in the Ruhr region. The organizers rely on innovative camera technology from Video Guard Professional to monitor the works of art in Haltern am See.

From video installations, audio walks and performances to artificial botanical landscapes and floating pavilions: the international artists of “Ruhr Ding: Climate” depict global warming in a wide variety of ways. The 22 new productions in and for the cities of Gelsenkirchen, Recklinghausen, Herne and Silbersee II in Haltern am See have been created in the last two and a half years. These are adapted to their surroundings and emphasize the special features of the Ruhr region. Various sculptures and installations are exhibited at Silbersee II. Such a presentation in public spaces brings many advantages – especially in times of the pandemic – but also risks. On the one hand, it can be shown to many people, but on the other, securing the art projects is all the more difficult. It is comparatively easy for unauthorized persons to damage or steal the projects. Those responsible therefore opted for the camera-based surveillance of Video Guard. Two towers, each with three integrated cameras, are currently securing the artworks. Both the beach and the installations on the lake are therefore under constant observation – day and night. Thanks to its flexible and uncomplicated installation, the system can be placed in any desired location. Thanks to the striking signal colors, the camera towers are always clearly visible and thus create a deterrent effect. If unauthorized persons nevertheless approach the art projects, trained personnel in the company’s own alarm center take immediate action. Loudspeakers integrated into the towers are used to ask people who approach the art objects without authorization to leave the site. If necessary – if the appeal does not have the desired effect – the local police will be called in.
